  • My granny was from a simpler time. She was resourceful because she had to be. She stretched food and money, and she made do with what she had or she went without... She would save the gift bags AND the tissue paper. I remember helping her smooth it out and fold it back up for the next year. And if we hadn't ripped up the paper, she'd probably have tried to save that too. Salvaging this pretty diy wrapping paper so that I can repurpose it for another project reminded me of her this morning... It was a simple moment that brought back her memory in the sweetest way!   • This old house has always had a way of calling me home... We've come a long way from these before pics, and we still have a long way to go. Lots of future projects and plans! January was my buffer month though. It was an intentionally slow month of buffer time in between the magazine shoot / Christmas / holiday travels... And jumping back into the blog and content creation again full time. (More on all that in my stories this morning if you missed it.)   • Her recipe, her handwriting, her old metal strainer filled with "warsh rags" and I can still hear the way her voice sounded. This will always be her kitchen to me... My granny's kitchen was right here in this very spot. It was her Mama's kitchen before that, and on back a few more generations too. When we rebuilt the old house, my goal was to put as much of the good old stuff right back in with the new. The old wood, the old dishes, the old memories... It looks a little different now to say the least, but the feeling I get when I'm in this space is the same...   • 2023 = F - O - C - U - S Anyone else starting the year off slow? It's been a very slow start to 2023 here... I might be a week or so late to the "Happy New Year" post as far as IG is concerned, but for me and mine I'm right on time. After a mini break, I'm feeling excited and refreshed as I jump back into this space and I'm so ready to take on another year! No resolutions for this girl... But I've been making lots of plans, setting a few goals, and I finally picked my word of the year: FOCUS! 2022 stretched me in a lot of ways. It was a good year, don't get me wrong!! But it was also a year full of distractions and shifting my attention from one thing to the next to the next. There were a lot of times in the last year where I felt stretched too thin. In 2023 I want to have more FOCUS. Focus on the things that matter, focus on the present moment and not the worries of tomorrow, focus on my goals and not other people's journeys, focus on progress over perfection, focus on my health... Etc. 2023 is going to be a year of FOCUS! There will continue to be projects, DIY's, antiquing adventures, home decor, and probably lots of white paint... Hopefully there will be more sharing of all of that here in this online space, and on the blog because I'll be focused on the right things and not bouncing from one thing to the next! I'm so excited for this year and can't wait to see what it brings... Do you have a word of the year? A new goal? New plans? A resolution?
