Farmhouse Garden Update: our DIY raised garden bed Farmhouse Garden Update: our DIY raised garden beds are finallly done and all set up, so I wanted to share a little garden update with you! Can you believe we built these for under $30 / piece?? This space is right off the kitchen side of our farmhouse. It's not quite done yet - I still need to arrange the rest of the pavers and gravel between the beds, fill a few more with dirt, get plants in the ground, and make it all pretty! But I love how it's shaping up so far! And Ford is so excited to enjoy some farm to floor veggies 🤣 I haven't decided what I'm gonna call this space yet. What do we like better? - potager garden - kitchen garden - got any other ideas?? The Cottage - Week # 24 Construction Update I sha The Cottage - Week # 24 Construction Update I shared a photo tour of the cottage on the blog this week and I'm dying for you to see it! AND in that post you'll also find... - links to our cottage house plans from @americasbesthouseplans - details about the modifications we made to the plans - 10 other house plans we found and loved that also have New / Old House potential - and photos of the famous old house that inspired THE WINDOW! The idea to add a pointed arch window on the front of the cottage came from a very specific house that was built in the 1880's in Eldon, Iowa. The house became an American icon after Grant Wood painted it. Anyone know what house I'm talking about? Or the painting?? Bonus points if you can guess it. Let me know in the comments...

No matter whether you hire a builder, or you general contract the build yourself and hire out all your subcontractors. Who you hire makes all the difference and I promise you there really are contractors out there who love working with the antiques as much as you do! We found these salvaged doors with the original brass and crystal knobs for $15 a piece on Facebook marketplace. When our trim guys said "I love these doors!" I knew we had hired the right team to install these beautiful antique doors in our new old cottage. If you're building / renovating in Eastern NC, these two contractors come highly recommended!
