Cottage Construction Update and THE WINDOW of my Dreams!

It’s been a while since I’ve shared much about the cottage here on the blog… and we’re long overdue for a construction progress update because so much progress has happened here lately.

I can hardly believe it’s been months since first shared our plans to build a cottage next door to our farmhouse.

We broke ground on the cottage a little over 4 months ago. Where there once was an empty field, now there’s a whole house!

I can’t wait for you to see how far the cottage has come, and I can’t wait to show you the photos I took of it this week!

I’m also dying to show you THE WINDOW we picked out for the front of the cottage.

It’s the window of my dreams!! And it’s finally installed, photographed, and ready for you to see it in all it’s glory.

I’ve talked a little bit about the window on my Instagram stories, but today I’ll be sharing the first peek at the window in this blog post.

Monthly Progress Pics

Before we get to the window, and the latest cottage construction update pics… I thought it would be fun to look back on my monthly progress pics of the front of the cottage starting from month 1.

Month 1

This first month was all about laying the foundation! It might not look like much in this photo, but a lot of work went into getting us to this point.

Month 2

In month 2 the cottage was framed and walls went up. This is when it started to feel real, but it didn’t quite feel like a house yet.

Month 3

The cottage windows were installed this month, and the roof and the exterior walls were wrapped. Month 3 is really when the cottage started to shape up.

Month 4

It snowed here in month 4. But even with the snow, a lot of progress was made. The exterior doors were installed, and the brick steps were added to the front and sides of the house.

Month 5

And finally… that leads us to month 5!

At the time I’m writing this, we have just started month 5 of construction.

This month’s construction progress pics are without a doubt the most dramatic progress pics to date!

Not only do we have the roof and siding complete… but THE WINDOW of my dreams is finally in place and ready for you to see!

She’s a looker I tell ya!

I promise to go into more detail about the window, why we chose it, where we got the inspiration for it, etc… I’ll be sharing all those details with you in a future blog post.

But I just couldn’t wait any longer to show you the photos!

I love how this little design detail turned out!

I think the pointed arch window really makes the front profile of the cottage. It gives it so much personality and charm!

And that’s just the progress on the exterior… wait till you see the inside of the cottage.

We have dry wall!

We have actual walls and rooms!

See those double windows in the photo below? That’s where the kitchen sink will go.

We have big plans for this space!

Mood boards are coming soon so I can give you a little preview of the vision for the kitchen and the rest of the cottage… but gosh I’m just so tickled to have walls!

Here’s a little peek at the primary bedroom.

And here’s a peek at the primary bathroom. It won’t be too long before I’ll be tiling the floors in here!

The photos below show the cottage laundry room, and if you look closely, you can see our farmhouse from the window.

Paint, interior doors, flooring, cabinets, hardware, lighting. There’s a lot left to do, and so much to look forward to in the next couple months.
