This old general store counter has the coolest sto This old general store counter has the coolest story!! If you've been following along, you know we're building a new / old cottage right down the gravel drive from our farmhouse. Well recently we found the prettiest antique general store counter, and we plan to turn it into the island for the cottage! I originally saw this old piece listed on Facebook Marketplace. But it turns out it was for sale at an antique shop in South Carolina. We live in NC but this antique find was worth the drive!! When we got it home, I learned that the counter came from an old general store in Murphy, NC. The owner of the antique booth shared that they had moved it out to her booth in SC just before hurricane Helene. And apparently this old store counter has also been photographed for a magazine! I mean, talk about a story!! So happy I got to bring this piece of history back home to NC and to its forever home at the cottage. I can't wait to see this old piece come to life again in the cottage kitchen! Doesn't the cottage look pretty covered in snow?! Doesn't the cottage look pretty covered in snow?! ❄️ It's been a minute since I shared a construction progress update here... Let's chat about it together! Since the last update, the exterior doors were installed and the brick steps were added to the front and side porch. There has also been lots of little hidden progress too, like the septic tank going in, electrical, plumbing, etc. We've been making lots of design decisions and sourcing antique finds to incorporate all throughout the house. And I'm absolutely dying to show you the lights we found from @barnlight They are going to be so perfect for this little vintage cottage!! I've also been working on some design mood boards that are almost ready to share. Stay tuned for that coming soon to the blog... The cottage is really starting to come together, at least design wise... and I can't wait to share more of it with you in the coming weeks! Y'all... It snowed! Snow is rare here in Eastern Y'all... It snowed! Snow is rare here in Eastern, NC. It's not unheard of, but it's really rare... Rare enough that when we do get snow, our town completely shuts down because the roads all turn to ice. That's not a maybe thing, or a sometimes thing. It's pretty much the case with any snow that sticks around here. The roads turn to ice, and you can't leave your house. I mean you can but it's risky. There are no snow plows coming to clear the roads (not in the country at least), no snow blowers, no snow shovels, no sleds... we just don't have that stuff down here. So when it does snow, we live it up! We stay home, we cook chicken and pastry, we drink hot cocoa, we go sledding on our boogie boards because why not?! It's hard to feel sparkly again when the magic of It's hard to feel sparkly again when the magic of Christmas comes and goes... Maybe that's why I waited till now to take the tree down! Y'all normally I'm a "take the tree down before New Years" kind of girl. But not this year! This year we needed that sparkle a little while longer. I took an extended break from sharing here because we got some tough news over the holidays. If you missed when I shared the news in stories, my mother was diagnosed with cancer right before Christmas. Taking down the Christmas tree was not a task I looked forward too this year... honestly I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the glow and the sparkle the trees brought to our home this season. And let me just say, our home was especially sparkly this year thanks to our @BalsamHill Christmas tree. This tree is by far the prettiest tree I've ever owned, and the most magical one too with the color changing light feature. 🎄 Comment "tree" and I'll send you the links + a code for $75 off! Partnering with @BalsamHill was a dream collab for me, and their Nordmann Fir was my dream Christmas tree... It brought the sparkle to our farmhouse in a way that no other tree could. It was the sparkle this season, the season we needed sparkle the most. And now it's gone. But I know we'll get that back, it's just packed up, tucked away in a closet until next year. Things were just different in our home this Christmas... And things are going to be different this year. But just like the audio says, I know we will get our sparkle back!
