How to Make Your TV Look Like Framed Quilt Art

Y’all… I came up with the idea to make our TV look like framed quilt art, and it turned out so good! I think it’s one of the best design ideas I’ve had in a good long while!!
I’m gonna walk you through all the steps so you can try this idea in your home. But first, I need to tell you about our specific TV because that’s what made my idea possible in the first place!
Start with an Art TV
Art tv’s make it easy to “hide” your television by turning it into art. So instead of looking at a blank tv screen, you get to look at a pretty painting.
It allows your tv to blend in and becomes part of your home’s decor!
There are a handful of art tv’s on the market today.
And while I can’t speak to all of them, I can say that the concept is genius! It solves a big design dilemma for those of us who hate the look of that big black box over the fireplace.
Our family has the Frame TV by Samsung and I absolutely love it!
We bought one for our living room a few years back, and we loved it so much that we bought a second one for our bedroom!
My parents recently bought the Hisense Canvas TV for their living room over at the cottage. It’s another great option for a tv with “art mode” capabilities! And it’s slightly more afforable that Samung’s Frame TV.
I like the ultra-matte screen and the fact that it comes with the magnetic “teak wood” frame!
I will say, I’m partial to Samsung’s Frame TV over the Hisense Canvas TV. Maybe I should do a side-by-side comparison of them both! Is that something you’d like to see?
They’re both very nice and are great options if you want to be able to display beautiful art in your home and hide the TV when it’s not being used as a TV.
Choosing Art for your Frame TV
One of my favorite parts about having a frame tv is choosing the art. Finding something that feels like me, and fits our home’s county cottage / 1800’s farmhouse aesthetic.
I’ve played around with pretty paintings and old black and white photos.
I even sourced a bunch of vintage frame tv art from the public domain – which took me hours of scrolling through the archives but I found some really pretty pieces!
I’m always on the lookout for unique artwork to display on our frame tv, but lately I’ve been craving something different.
Something with a little more vintage cottage charm. Something that feels a little more “country granny”, if you will.
The Inspo for My Frame TV Quilt Art Collection
I was scrolling online and I came across these photos of framed antique quilts.
And it got my wheels turning!
What if I did this with my Great Grandmother’s quilts… but instead of framing the actual quilt, what if i turned it into digital art for our Frame TV?
I took that idea and ran with it!
And I ended up creating a whole collection of vintage “quilt” art for our Frame TV… digitally preserved quilt art from the hand-made, patchwork quilts my Great Grandmother quilted decades ago.

How to Make Your TV Look Like Framed Quilt Art
Step 1 – Download your digital frame tv quilt art from my shop!

Step 2 – Upload the “quilt” art to your TV.
This step might look different depending on what brand of TV you have.
Adding Art to Samsung’s Frame TV
With our Samsung Frame TV’s, I can upload art to the TV through the SmartThings App.
Or, I can save the files to a flash drive, then upload them to the TV by plugging the flash drive into the back of the One Connect Box that came with the TV.
Adding Art to Hisense’s Canvas TV
For my mom’s Hisense Canvas TV, you can add art by setting the TV to art mode, selecting “Photo Collections”, clicking the “+” icon, and then selecting the mobile device option.
The TV will then display a QR code. Scan that code with your phone, and follow the prompts to upload art / photos from your phone directly to the TV.
With my mom’s, you can also use the flash drive trick… but the connection spot for that is on the back of the TV, which makes it almost impossible to do after mounting the TV on the wall.
Step 3 – Adjust your TV’s settings.
Adjusting your TV’s settings is something you’ll want to experiment with.
There’s no “one size fits all” rule.
Just like with paint colors, the perfect TV settings will be unique to every home, and really every room inside your home.
But I’ll share what I do in our home to make our Frame TV quilt art look super realistic in person.
Select “no mat” in your tv’s art display settings.
This one’s purely a personal preference, but I think having the mat makes our frame tv look less realistic.
The colors show up weird, and there’s a little more of that “tv glow” that comes through with the mat.
Give it a try with and without the mat and see what you like best!
Lower the brightness.
That “tv glow” I mentioned earlier, you can reduce that and make the art on your Frame TV look even more realistic by lowering the screen brightness.
Adjust the Warmth / temperature.
You can also play with the temperature of your screen settings to make the art look more life-like.
Think about all the chatter about blue light… from blue light glasses to limiting our exposure to blue light in the evenings for better sleep.
Your TV puts off a blue light too, and when it comes to art TV’s… that blue light is your TV’s giveaway.
Warming up the screen’s display a bit can make it look less like a TV, and more like framed art.
Add a decorative frame around your TV.
Adding a frame is the final step, the chef’s kiss if you ask me, to making your Frame TV truly look like art!
Just look at the difference between our bedroom TV and mom’s Hisense Canvas TV.
Hers came with a magnetic “teak wood” bezel. My Samsung Frame TV did not. And it makes a big difference!
For our living room TV, we have a frame that was specially made for the Samsung Frame TV. It MAKES this TV!
We LOVE our Deco TV Frame!
It’s an investment for sure, but it takes the Frame TV from “that’s really nice” to “WOW!”
