10 Harlequin Pattern Painted Floors (P.S. I’m in LOVE with this idea!)
I’ve been pinning and saving harlequin pattern painted floor inspo pics like it was my job – so it just made sense for me to make this the next post in my P.S. series.
If you’re new to the series, the “P” stands for pins, as in Pinterest pins. And the “S” stands for saves, as in posts I’ve saved on Instagram.
My P.S. series is where I share all the photos of rooms, interiors, homes, projects, etc. that have been inspiring me lately!
Don’t forget to pin this for later!

And this week it’s all about painted wood floors, specifically ones painted in a harlequin or checkerboard pattern.
I LOVE the look of painted wood floors, but I’m undecided about where a harlequin pattern might work the best in our farmhouse. So this post, pulls inspo from a variety of different rooms for us to ponder over.
Let’s dive in and scroll through some of my favorites together!
Black and White Checkerboard Painted Wood Floors
Starting off with a classic black and white checkerboard floor. I LOVE contrast of the black and white in this dining room!
It feels both playful, and sophisticated. And I love that they painted all the trimwork and doors black too!
White and Natural Wood Diamond Pattern Floors
I also love the white and wood diamond pattern floors in this pretty farmhouse kitchen!
I could see doing this pattern in my own kitchen just to add a little more visual interest and break up the wood in there.
Historic Hallway with Harlequin Painted Wood Floors
This harlequin patterned hallway floor is another beautiful option to consider!
A hallway could contain the harlequin pattern. And it might be a fun, unexpected design detail to add to an often forgotten part of the house.
Green and White Checkered Hallway Floors
Here’s another checkered hallway floor I found and loved!
I like that this space shows 2 different floors meeting up together. With the painted pattern contained in the hallway, and wood floors continuing into the next room.
Our wood floors are continuous throughout our farmhouse (minus tile floors in the bathrooms). So it’s nice to see an example of painted floors mixed with stained wood floors in the same home.
Gray and White Harlequin Pattern Mudroom Floors
Next up, the floors that made me fall in love with painted floors…

Liz Marie’s harlequin patterned mudroom floors are so dreamy! I love that this photo shows the patterned mudroom floors meeting up to the solid white painted floors in her kitchen.
I could see adding the harlequin pattern to a smaller space in our farmhouse, a bedroom maybe, and meeting up to solid painted floors in the next room over.
Blue and White Diamond Painted Wood Floors
I hadn’t really considered blue and white harlequin floors until this photo…

But I am considering painting the trim in my son’s room blue so I could actually see this look working in his room. Gosh wouldn’t that be so beautiful?!
Classic Black and White Painted Wood Floors and Painted Staircase Runner
My heart skipped a beat when I saw this next photo!
The black and white harlequin design on the floors is stunning. But pair that pattern with the black and white striped painted staircase runner and I just can’t stop staring!
It’s gorgeous!!! Maybe the black and white really could work in our farmhouse.
And maybe I should paint our stairs too!
White Harlequin Pattern Painted on Wood Bathroom Floors
Another wood floor, with a white harlequin pattern painted onto the wood… I do LOVE this look. It’s very similar to the kitchen photo I shared earlier.

But this photo shows the harlequin pattern in a bathroom, so a much smaller space and more contained. And seeing this space and this white / wood color combo, really has me thinking about our upstairs hallway!
It’s pretty plain right now, white walls, wood floors, and a couple windows. Adding a fun pattern to the floor, but not completely covering the wood could be so pretty!
Black Harlequin Pattern Painted on Wood Kitchen Floors
Or… we could go a little darker, and paint black diamonds on our wood floors like the floors shown in this pretty kitchen!
I like the black, and I really like that you can still see the wood tones here! It feels like the best of both worlds.
Black and White Harlequin Painted Wood Floors
Last but not least, let me show you one more black and white harlequin painted wood floor because it’s just so pretty!

I have a feeling this is gonna be a hard decision for me to make!
Will I ever paint a harlequin pattern on our pine floors? Only time will tell! But the one thing I do know is that I’m in LOVE with the idea of it.
I’ll be sure to keep you updated if and when I decide to go for it.
