What is a simmer pot?

A simmer pot, or a stovetop potpourri is basically a way to add a nice scent or fragrance to your home. You add a few ingredients and some water to a pot. Then you bring it to a boil. Once it’s boiling, you turn down the temperature and let it simmer while it fills your home with the scent of the ingredients! Y’all know I love a good candle! But there’s something extra cozy and inviting about simmer pots!!

How long do you let it simmer?

I tend to let my simmer pots go all day! When I notice the water getting low in the pot, I top it off with more water and let it keep on simmering. It will stay fragrant for the entire day!

This is especially nice when you’re Spring cleaning. You can boil one of these spring simmer pot recipes while you clean your home and that way you refresh your spaces and the air in your home all at the same time!

Speaking of Spring Cleaning, I shared some of my best time saving tips for cleaning your house fast in this post.

What do you do with simmer pot when it’s done?

Here at the farmhouse, we compost pretty regularly. You can read more about that in [this post]. So when I’m done with a simmer pot, I just add all of the boiled ingredients into our compost bin! You can also just drain the water and toss the ingredients into your regular garbage.
