Today’s the day I finally get to reveal our New Old Cottage Kitchen here on the blog and show you how this space looks now that construction is done!
I’ve been looking forward to this post since we broke ground on the cottage! But before we dive into the reveal, let’s take a look back at the original design I shared with you and what the kitchen looked like the last time you saw it here on the blog.
The Cottage Kitchen Mood Board
If you’ve been following along, you might remember when I shared all the Cottage Mood Boards to give you a peek at the design and our vision for the cottage.
Here’s a little look back at our original kitchen mood board.
The Cottage Kitchen During Construction
And here’s a couple photos from my mid-construction cottage tour to remind you what the kitchen looked like the last time you saw this space.
Drywall, trim and cabinets had just gone in… but there was so much left to do in this space to make it feel like a kitchen and a home.
New-Old Cottage Kitchen Reveal and Design Details
Since then this space has totally transformed into the vintage cottage kitchen of my dreams! Paint, flooring, countertops, appliances, lighting… it’s all done and I can’t wait for you to see it.
Here’s a little peek at our new old cottage kitchen today!
If you’ve been following me for a while, you might have been surprised to see a little more color in this space because my style is typically very neutral.
Very white and woodgrain if you will!
Now I know it’s still not a ton of color, but it’s probably more than you would expect to see in our farmhouse.
I do love the mint and jadeite green in this space though! I think they’re the perfect pops of color for the cottage kitchen!
What do you think?
I couldn’t be happier with how this space has all come together! And I’m so excited to finally be able to share some finished photos of it all with you today.
Let’s chat through some of the kitchen design details while I share the rest of the photos of this space!
Vintage-Inspired Lighting from Barn Light Electric
First things first, we have to talk about the lighting!
The two lights hanging over the kitchen island are the Primary Schoolhouse Stem Pendant Lights from Barn Light Electric.
Schoolhouse lights became popular in the 1920’s and were used in school houses to light up the learning spaces without giving off the harsh glare of lights with exposed lightbulbs.
The milky glass globe was meant to soften the light without taking away the brightness.
I love a pretty schoolhouse light, but I especially love that they add a little touch of history to the cottage.
We chose a pretty jadeite color for the stem and the painted band around the glass globe and it is just the perfect color in person!
It’s such a pretty green – and very similar to vintage jadeite glass if you ask me, maybe slightly darker but a very similar color tone.
The other three lights in the kitchen are the Seaside Gooseneck Sconce Lights. We hung two over the kitchen sink…
… and one over by the fridge wall.
Are these not the most fun, playful light fixtures you’ve ever seen? I can’t get over the fluted detail on the edge!
These pretty sconces are that same jadeite green color seen on the kitchen island pendant lights. The underside of the shade is white, and the outer edge of the shade has a thin black trim line.
Gosh they’re pretty!
All of Barn Light’s light fixtures are very customizable. You can order any light they make in just about any shape, size, color, etc. that you can think of!
So if the green’s not your thing, rest assured they’ve got a color you’ll love and one that’ll be perfect for your space.
If you loved the light fixtures we chose for the kitchen, I know you’ll love the rest of the lights too! So I’ll link them all below for you to see.

Retro-Style Appliances in a Fun Minty Green Color
Next we have to talk about the appliances!
We found the prettiest retro-style mint green refrigerator for our new old cottage kitchen!
It truly looks like an old fridge – in fact, a lot of our subcontractors have asked us whether it was old or new.
We loved the fridge so much, we decided to get the matching mint green stove too and I’m so glad we did!
It’s a perfect fit in our new-old cottage kitchen!
The color on these retro-style appliances is a perfect compliment to the jadeite green color of the lights.
The mint green is a little bit lighter than the jadeite green, and maybe just a tad more blue.
I think mint is actually a great way to describe the appliance color.
Initially I was worried they would be more “green green” before they arrived – but they aren’t!
Some of the product photos online just do not do the color justice! The color is so much better in person than online.
The Antique General Store Counter / Kitchen Island
The cottage kitchen island is actually an antique general store counter!
Is that not the coolest thing?
We bought it from The North Porch, an antique vendor at The Vintage Market of Greenville, SC.
It was a 5 hour drive there and back to pick it up, and I’d do it all over again to have this beautiful piece of history here at the cottage!
White Cabinets & White Quartz Countertops
We ordered the rest of the cottage kitchen cabinets from The Discount House, a local cabinet / countertop store in town.
The face of the cabinets reminded me of the design on the front of the island, which made them an easy yes!
The countertops are Dove Lace quartz, which was one of the more affordable quartz options we found when we were out looking at countertop options.
Dove Lace is a white quartz countertop, with very subtle grey veining. We love them so far!
An Old-Fashioned High Back Kitchen Sink
Moving on – let’s chat about that sink!
We found this new / old-fashioned high back sink for the kitchen, and the prettiest vintage style chrome faucet to go with it.
I love the “hot” and “cold” on the faucet knobs. I think that’s just the sweetest vintage looking touch!
The sink ended up being slightly taller than we accounted for when the windows went in, so our carpenter Sawyer Designs had to get creative to make it work in this space.
You know how old houses all seem to have their little quirks. The things that aren’t quite perfect, or aren’t quite level.
That’s what this sink reminds me of. I think it’ll just be one of those little quirky things about the cottage that make it look and feel like a much older home!
Cream Colored Walls and Tan Trimwork
We went with a warm white color on the walls all throughout the cottage!
And for the interior doors and trimwork (baseboards, window casings, door casings, range hood cover, etc.) we went with a taupey tan color.
I’ll be honest with you – this is the first time I ever chose paint colors just based on the little paint chips at the store.
Normally I order a sample size and test it out in person. But time was running out for us to make a decision, so we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best.
Luckily, we ended up loving both colors! Otherwise that could have been an expensive mistake.
I don’t recommend doing that in your home – and I know I won’t ever do it again in mine. My nerves couldn’t handle winging it like that again. But it worked out!
I’ll link both the wall color and the trim / door color below.

LVP that Looks like Real Wood!
Last but not least, let’s chat about those floors!
We went with this luxury vinyl plank flooring all throughout the cottage (except in the primary bath and guest bath).
I’m admittedly very picky when it comes to flooring! I prefer real wood almost 100% of the time.
However, at the cottage LVP is the option that made the most sense for a variety of reasons that my builder could explain much better than I could.
Budget was part of the decision, but it also had a lot to do with moisture and the installation process since the cottage was built on a slab foundation.
Again, our builder could explain it much better than I could, so I won’t elaborate because I’m definitely not the expert on this.
I was initially worried about finding an LVP option I liked – but these pretty LVP floors have exceeded my expectation!
They are so pretty in person…
The individual boards are pretty wide – like 9 inches wide!
The grain pattern on this flooring looks very similar to our pine floors over at the farmhouse! But the color tones are less yellow / orange, and more cool toned. They’re beautiful!
There’s also a lot of variation from one floor board to the next. You get some wide grain, some tight grain, and even some knots and character that you wouldn’t normally expect to see in an LVP.
I surprised myself with this one, but I truly couldn’t be happier with the floors!
Cottage Kitchen FAQ’s
what about the range hood?
Our amazing carpenter Sawyer Designs whipped that together with leftover pieces of beadboard paneling and trim wood.
And we painted it the same color as all the trim: Canvas Tan.
Lawrence is so talented and his attention to detail and craftsmanship is outstanding! If you’re local to Eastern, NC and need a carpenter / wood worker I would highly recommend giving him a call or messaging him on IG. Tell him White and Woodgrain sent ya!
what’s left to do in this space?
- hang shelving on either side of the stove and by the fridge
- install exterior door knobs – these arrived last week and will installed soon!
- install pantry shelves (I know I didn’t share the pantry in this post. We didn’t have electricity when I took these photos, so the pantry was too dark to photograph at the time. But the pantry shelves are another big project left to do and I’ll share that space with you in the big Cottage Tour).
when will we get to see the bathrooms?
The Cottage Reveals will be shared in 5 parts:
- The Cottage Exterior Reveal
- The Cottage Kitchen Reveal (this post)
- The Cottage Primary Bath Reveal
- The Cottage Guest Bath Reveal
- A Tour the Cottage (coming soon)
These “room reveal” posts will be shared weekly here on the blog – so check back soon for the bathroom reveals!
Once construction is completely done, and once my parents are all moved in… I’ll share updated photos of the entire cottage, inside and out, in a big “Tour of the Cottage”!
