Today’s the day! I get to reveal our New Old Cottage Guest Bathroom here on the blog and show you how this space looks now that construction is officially done!
The Cottage Guest Bathroom Mood Board
If you’ve been following our construction journey, you might remember when I shared the Cottage Mood Boards to give you a sneak peek at the design and our vision for the cottage.
Here’s a little look back at our original mood board for the guest bathroom.

The Cottage Guest Bathroom During Construction
Here’s what the guest bathroom looked like the last time you saw it in my mid-construction cottage tour.

The DIY penny tile floors were done, the tub was in, the antique door was hung, and trimwork had just begun in this space!

There are no windows in this space, so I did the best I could with these photos since we didn’t have electricity or lights yet.
I was so proud of my tilework in here, I had to show you how it turned out even though this lighting and my photos did not do it justice!

New-Old Cottage Guest Bathroom Reveal and Design Details
Since then, we’ve finished the trim, painted, installed the sink, the faucet, and the toilet, and hung up the light!

And now that we have power, and we can actually turn on the lights in here, it’s time to show you how the cottage guest bathroom turned out!

Let me show you around…

This room was honestly a little bit of a surprise to us all because we knew it was going to look totally different in the light than it has in the dark these past few months.

It was a challenge picking colors and making design decisions for this space by flashlight… but I’m so happy with how it all came together in the end!

What do you think?

Let’s chat through some of the guest bath design details while I share the rest of the photos of this space!
Vintage-Inspired Lighting from Barn Light Electric
First things first, let’s start with the lighting!

We wanted the guest bathroom to feel fun and playful for the grandkids – but still functional for the adults, and true to the vintage cottage feel of the rest of the house.

So we chose a Primary Schoolhouse Gooseneck Light from Barn Light Electric for this bathroom and I LOVE it in here so much!
Isn’t it so pretty?

The gooseneck arm came in a galvanized finish – and the triple painted band on the globe is in the same jadeite color you saw on the schoolhouse pendant lights in the cottage kitchen.
That subtle pop of color is just what we wanted for this space!
I think the jadeite stripes really complement the colors seen in the tile floor and on the sink too. It’s just enough to tie it all together, but not so much that it overwhelms the space!

If you loved the light fixture we chose for the guest bathroom, I know you’ll love the rest of the cottage lights too! So I’ll link them all below for you to see.

An Old-Fashioned High Back Sink with a Pop of Color Underneath
Next up, we have to talk about the sink!

We found a new / old-fashioned high back sink, and thought it would be a fun choice for the guest bathroom.
Since this space is primarily for guests – we didn’t need a ton of storage in here besides towels, and extra rolls of toilet paper. Which is what this antique pie safe will be used for!

It’s located just outside the guest bathroom and will function as a linen closet!

Mounting the sink directly on the wall, instead of on top of a cabinet or vanity, keeps the room feeling open and airy.

It also leaves floorspace underneath for the trash can, or a toddler step stool for the little ones when they need to wash their hands.

But the best part of mounting the sink directly on the wall is the peekaboo color moment it gave us!

This piece was a bit of a splurge – but that color reveal moment makes it so worth it in my opinion!
And then there’s the faucet. Isn’t it so pretty?

It has the most darling little knobs with “hot” and cold” written in cursive.

But my favorite thing about this piece is the soap dish on top!

A Salvaged Door from a 1920’s Cottage
This door was a dream find – and a Facebook Marketplace steal of a deal!

Someone was renovating their 1920’s cottage in downtown Charlotte, NC.
I couldn’t believe these doors were one of the things they were replacing. Because I would have NEVER!

But also, I’m so glad they did, because now we get to give these old doors a new life in our new-old cottage!

We bought 4 antique doors from them, all with the original brass and crystal knobs, AND they were all pre-hung. Like still on the door jam!

Charlotte is a 4 hour drive from us – but we got the doors for only $15 a piece, and you just can’t beat that. So it was well worth the drive!
These doors alone would have cost a few hundred dollars a pop, plus the cost of the hardware.
Cream Colored Walls and Tan Trimwork
We went with a warm white color on the walls all throughout the cottage!
And for the interior doors and trimwork (baseboards, window casings, door casings, beadboard, etc.) we went with a taupey tan color.

At one point I thought it would have been fun to paint the beadboard and trimwork in this room a soft minty green. But now seeing this space with the lights on, I actually think I like it better this way!
I think if the walls were colorful too, the pretty greens on the light fixture, the floors, and the underside of the sink might not pop as much as they do now.

Plus we’ll be able to add in a little more color when we start decorating, so I think it was the right call!
I’ll link both the wall color and the trim / door color below.

Peg Rail for Hanging Towels
Peg rails are a great way to add both character and functional storage to a room. We added a few peg hooks around the guest bathroom to hang towels on.

We’ll hang towels on this wall.

And we’ll hang a hand towel or two here by the sink.

These peg hooks with screws already in the back make installing them so easy, especially if you already have a trim board up where you want to hang things!

If you don’t have an existing trim board but you love the look, head to this post to see how I made a DIY peg rail shelf for the upstairs bathroom at our farmhouse.
DIY Penny Tile Floors with a Mint Green and White Daisy Pattern
And last but not least… the tile!
These DIY penny tile floors are one of my favorite DIY projects to date!

We chose to combine these white penny tile, and these mint green penny tile to create a custom design in the guest bathroom.

I created a double border of mint green penny tiles all around the perimeter of the bathroom. Then I added a vintage daisy tile pattern in the center.

Did you catch the video I shared of this project over on my Instagram?

I am so proud of these floors and so happy with how they look in the cottage guest bathroom!
Cottage Guest Bathroom FAQ’s
where did you find that old pie safe?
We found this cool old piece at a place my mom calls “the barn”. I’ll link their instagram page here: @notforgotten.antiques
I’ve been meaning to go there for months and it just hasn’t worked out yet. They’re only open on Saturdays.
But if you’re ever in town or passing through on a weekend, it would definitely be a good place to check out for antiques and primitive finds!

what’s left to do in this space?
- paint the peg hooks to match the trim color
- hang a mirror over the sink
- hang this antique medicine cabinet over the toilet
- add a shower curtain, rug, and other bathroom accessories
where can I see the rest of the house?
