Have you ever wished there was an easier, simpler way to hang garland on your mantel?

Well there is! And in today’s post, I’m gonna show you just how easy and simple it is to hang garland on a mantel, or any surface in your home for that matter!

I’m also going to share the must-have gadget you’ll need to get the job done. I’m so glad I came across this little gadget. It made hanging up our Christmas garland on the fireplace mantel a breeze!

Now I fully acknowledge there are many other posts that will show you how to hang a garland. And those other posts are full of tips, and decor advice, and links to different styles of garlands…

But in my humble opinion, they’re also unnecessarily lengthy. So many of other posts I came across were over-complicating what should be a very simple tip / tutorial.

So if you’re looking for the simple “no fluff” explanation, then you’re in the right place!

No need to scroll through a super long post when the answer is something as simple as a Command Hook!

Literally y’all!

Attaching Garland to a Mantel with Command Hooks

Command hooks are hands down the best way to attach a garland to a mantel!

More specifically the cord bundlers from Command.

Command’s cord bundlers are not only easy to use, but they’re also fairly easy to find in stores. I’ll link a few of them here for convenience:

These helpful hooks can support the weight of your Christmas garlands without damaging your fireplace mantel.

And because of the way they’re designed, Command cord bundlers can grab a hold of several different garlands and literally “bundle” them together. Which is great if you like a layered garland look!

How to Use Command’s Cord Bundlers for Garland

Step 1: Determine Where You Want Your Garland

Try different placing your garland in different positions, like atop the mantel, draped to one side, swooping down from the center of the mantel, etc.

It’s all personal preference! Just determine how you want it to look before you move on to step 2.

Step 2: Attach the Cord Bundler to the Mantel.

Following the instructions on the packaging, first attach the adhesive strip to the Command Cord Bundler, then affix the other side of the adhesive to the mantel.

Step 3: Secure the Garland.

Drape your Garland on the mantel wrapping the cord bundler around the garland to hold it in place. Secure the clasp and you’re done!

Step 4: Fluff, Layer, and Decorate However You Like!

Fluff the branches to hide the cord bundler if you can see it poking through.

You can also add more garland layers if you like. Depending on how heavy your garlands are, you may want to add multiple cord bundlers to hold them in place at different spots on the mantel.

One last thing! I wanted to share the garland I’m using this year, the garland seen in all the photos from this post, because I’m sure I’ll get a question or two about it.

The garland is the real touch norfolk pine garlands (some from Kirkland’s and some from Afloral). I shared a side-by-side comparison of both the Afloral vs Kirkland’s norfolk pine garlands here on the blog if you’re looking to add some garland to your home this holiday season.

There’s also more garland’s I found a loved linked here under “Garlands” in the Holiday Decor Shop.

  1. The cord bundlers are the best thing ever! I use these around doorways, but I do wish there was something like this that can be used on non-smooth surfaces. My mantel is raw wood. I have used a nail in the past, but sometimes the garland slips off the nail.

    1. Hi Kim! I agree, they really are the best! Our mantel is actually pretty textured. It’s an antique piece, and there are lots of ridges around the grain in the wood. So far the cord bundlers have held up really well though! The packaging might say otherwise, but I’ve found they work fine even on our uneven mantel.
